In addition to ornamental & fruit shrubs, we’ll have cool season seeds and fresh & dried herbs for your kitchen. There’s too much to list so come down to the garden at 252-256 St Marks Ave between Vanderbilt and Underhill on the day to see what you fancy.
Our September natural dye workshop was a great success. Many thanks to Liz and all the participants!! Goldenrod and pokeberry foraged from the Hudson Valley, as well as black-eyed susan from the garden, were used to create luscious colors on silk fabric and wool/mohair yarn. I can’t think of a better way to have spent an afternoon.

We’re pleased to announce our first natural dye workshop at the garden. Liz Spencer is a natural dyer, ethical fashion designer, artist, gardener, fiber enthusiast & animal lover. She holds a Master of Arts in Fashion & the Environment from the London College of Fashion and has experience with dyeing and dye gardens across the globe. RSVP at www.phcfarm.com/dye
2013 marks 15 years since the founding of Prospect Heights Community Farm in 1998.
The garden began as three abandonded lots, filled with rubble from the buildings that previously stood on them, along with years worth of accumulated rubbish. Since then, the space has been transformed into the rich, lush garden it is today.
It has taken the hard work of many volunteers to shape the garden into its current form and an asset for the wider community to enjoy.
To mark the milestone, thank our volunteers and celebrate the garden itself, we’ll be holding a series of events throughout the summer.

We didn’t have many April showers in Brooklyn this year but the downpours in early May made up for it and now the garden is in full swing.
We’re now in the sweet spot with warmth, harvesting of early vegetables, flowers in bloom everywhere and the mosquitoes haven’t quite settled in yet!

We’re having our annual plant sale on Sunday the 12th of May from 9am to dusk! It’s Mother’s Day and there’s no better gift than a plant.
We’ll have flowers, herbs and vegetables; everything from cosmos to snapdragons, basil to thyme and broccoli to zucchini. There’s too much to list so come down to the garden on St Marks Ave between Vanderbilt and Underhill on the day to see what you fancy.

It may still feel cold, but the garden is beginning to come to life. At the moment it’s mostly the bulbs which are beginning to bloom.
But those gardeners who covered all or part of their bed with a cloche or cold frame are almost able to start their first harvest of the year! You might have to look closely to see past the condensation covered glass but there are lettuces, herbs, chard, radishes and other greens almost ready to be picked.
On the 10th of January, the deeds for the Prospect Heights Community Farm were transferred from the TPL to BANG. The TPL held the deeds after the garden was saved from the city and although was always meant to be an interim land trust held the deeds for over a decade.

Don’t let your Christmas tree go to waste. Bring it to the garden this weekend and we’ll turn it into mulch that will be used to nourish trees and plants across the city!
Make sure any non-compostable decorations have been removed from your tree and bring it to the garden at one of the following times:
Saturday the 12th of January, 10 am – 2 pm.
Sunday the 13th of January, 10 am – 2 pm.
If you’d like to volunteer to collect trees from around the neighbourhood feel free to come to the garden during the above times.
